About Tom Brown

Tom meeting King Charles III at Jesus College on St. David’s Day 2020

Tom studied modern languages in Oxford 1975-9 and then pursued a career in banking until 2013.

He has lived in Hamburg, Zurich and Toronto and travelled widely in Europe, Japan, Australia and North America, and has long been interested in architecture, working backwards from a childhood fascination with modern buildings in London.

He has been taking groups of friends and foreign students around Oxford since 1975. He remains closely connected with Jesus College, whose alumni include Lawrence of Arabia, Harold Wilson, LibDem leader Ed Davey, novelist William Boyd and Turner Prize-winning artist Elizabeth Price, having in 2021 initiated an undergraduate bursary in memory of his French tutor Dr. Anthony Pilkington.

He was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2014 and underwent successful treatment at the Royal Marsden and Chelsea & Westminster Hospitals 2014-6, and has been an active supporter of Red Trouser Day since its inception.
