The Red Trouser Day (RTD) and Penguins Against Cancer (PAC) Registered Charities are delighted to announce, on 6th November 2024, the launch of a jointly funded cancer research award. The RTD-PAC Simon Bunting Colorectal Cancer Research Award will provide £10,000 to support research into Colorectal Cancer, with preference being given to research supporting earlier diagnosis and prevention.
Applications will be formally assessed on merit by both RTD Officials, and the PAC Research Committee, and it is hoped that the inaugural Award will be made in Spring 2025.
Simon Bunting is a Dentist who played rugby for, and qualified at, Guy’s Hospital in 1990. He was diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer in 2023 and remains in remission following treatment. He is an active charity fundraiser and is delighted and honoured to be chosen as the eponym to head up this joint research award between RTD and PAC.
Charlie Beardmore, President of Penguins Against Cancer said:
‘We are delighted to be collaborating with our Friends at the Red Trouser Day charity to jointly fund the RTD – PAC Simon Bunting Colorectal Cancer Research Award. It is vital that such research is appropriately resourced’
He also noted that bowel cancer is the 2nd most common cause of cancer death in the UK
Paul Finch, Chair of Red Trouser Day said:
‘We hope that joining forces with PAC on this award, will result in some innovative & exciting research coming forward that will change the diagnosis and treatment of Colorectal Cancer – we are particularly interested in seed funding new initiatives as well as developing a strategic partnership with PAC to expand our joint capabilities.’
