2nd August Update

I managed to complete the first of my mini challenges / events yesterday – The London Landmarks Half Marathon – what an amazing day organised by Tommy’s Charity with the support of City of Westminster & City of London

My time 2 hours 3 minutes 4 seconds – my position = 3,963 – the time of 1 2 3 was impossible, so I though I’d settle for 2 3 4 😉

The winner – Nick Harris-Fry = 1 hour 11 minutes 54 seconds (almost twice as fast as me – brilliant)

Last finisher – Barnabas Kovacs = 14 hours 33 minutes 7 seconds (even more amazing)

14,500 entered the race with 10,954 finishing

Amount raised to date £1,535 – thanks to your generosity

My next event is on Wednesday 15th September – more details to follow – at The MoreTown Belle bar in St Katherine’s Dock, London – hope you can make it.

I am helping raise awareness and funds for 4 x brilliant Charities:

Momentum Children’s Charity – Manulife UK’s partner charity – Supporting families whose children are facing cancer or a life-challenging condition

Royal Marsden Cancer Charity – Supports The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre

Red Trouser Day Charity – raising awareness of colorectal cancer & funds for research at the Royal Marsden Hospital

Queen’s Hospital Charity – NHS hospital in Romford, Essex – to help support the ongoing fight against COVID-19

Last month, I was fortunate to get the 5 year all clear from bowel cancer at The Royal Marsden Hospital. I got lucky back in 2016 with an early diagnosis which gave me a chance to be part of the Marsden’s 10 year deferral of surgery programme. My family and I are truly grateful to The Royal Marsden Hospital and their amazing team – they also saved my brother Gary’s life in 1989 and treated my better half Julie, this year and last, so we are truly indebted to them.

I am now also very fortunate to work at Manulife and grateful to have been introduced to their chosen charity, Momentum Children’s Charity, who they have supported during this very tough climate for charities.

On Sunday 1st August and 10th October I will be running 2 x London Half Marathons on their behalf – I’m getting on a bit so have chose the easier route this time …. 2 x halves, with 2 months rest 😉

On Wednesday 15th September I will be taking on pool challengers (table, cue & balls – not the wet kind!) in a 12 hour pool shootout at The MoreTown Belle bar in St Katherine’s Dock – I last hosted these challenges in Sep ‘19 and in Jun ‘17 where we raised a significant amount, so looking for a similar success. More details to follow – it would be great to see you there!

Thursday 16th September, I will be helping golf fundraiser supremo, Geoff Morris, organise the annual Red Trouser Day Golf Day at Fairleigh Golf Course – places are still available if anyone is interested in playing – please contact me on 07949 365611

Finally and most importantly, the main why?

No doubt, like everyone reading this message, in the last couple of years in particular, our family and friends have been affected by Covid, Cancer and other Iife threatening illnesses. Without the fantastic charities and hospitals doing the hard work, we would be far worse off.

My contribution is for those special people and in particular in loving memory of four special people we have lost too early to Cancer and Covid:

Stephen Tucker – Oct 2019

Caesar D’Almeida – Aug 2020

Bradley Morgan – Dec 2020

Debbie Lea – Jan 2021

Thank you for reading and as ever thank you for your support – I would be very grateful if you could share this and if you are able to donate, that would be very much appreciated

Keep well
