Bishop Auckland Rugby Union Football Club
Bishop Auckland Rugby Union Football Club held their own Red Trouser Day curry night at their clubhouse on Saturday raising over £1,200 toward their target for the charity.
A power cut on Saturday morning caused by the snow threatened the whole event but stoic work from Northern Powergrid restored the supply just before the 100 or so guests started to arrive.
Local restaurant Spice Lounge supplied the food donating half the cost back to the charity, a tremendous gesture.
In January veterans of the club are embarking on a mini tour as a tribute to the recent loss of team mates from cancer. In the 90’s this group of players embarked on many foreign tours including Berlin, Rheindahlen and Rotterdam but this tour is a much more sedate trip to Saracens to support their home grown front row player Alec Clarey in their game against Bristol, popping in at Northampton on the way back for a game against Bath.
Whilst arranging the tour, organiser Steve Errington saw the One Show surprise for Paul Finch on TV and thought that supporting RTD, with it’s Saracens connection and contribution toward colorectal research and awareness fitted the ethos of the tour perfectly.
So, with Pauls help they’ve block booked the Sitara for another curry and are meeting up with RTD members at the game for what should be a joyous gathering. 50 blokes of a certain age watching rugby and having a pint or two, what’s not to like!
Please help us to help thousands of people avoid life changing treatment.
