NEJA’s Art Walks and Red Trouser Day present
A guided tour of The Wallace Collection with Julija Svetlova
Saturday 15th November 2025, 10:30am to 13:00pm
What will we see?
The Wallace Collection is a national museum housing unsurpassed masterpieces of painting, sculpture, furniture, arms and armour, and porcelain. Built over the 18th and 19th centuries by the Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace, it is one of the finest and most celebrated collections in the world. The Collection was given to the British Nation in 1897 by Lady Wallace, so that it could be kept together and enjoyed by generations of visitors. It was an astonishing bequest and one of the greatest gifts of artworks ever to be transferred into public ownership.
Julija Svetlova, our ‘in house’ art historian, will take us on a fascinating journey of the gallery. We will look at all sorts of paintings, from Canaletto to Jean-Honoré Fragonard, with a special focus on the Dutch Old Masters, which are one of Julija’s art passions. We also admire the remains of the smoking room, which is lined with Minton tiles in a Turkish style, rooms filled with Sèvres Porcelain and all the chandeliers.
Costs: £38.00 per person
Then what?
Those who want to stay after the tour and mingle are invited to proceed to the Courtyard Cafe, which serves both food and all sorts of beverages, sparkling wine included. https://www.wallacecollection.org/visit/food-and-drink/
